The pilgrimage to Compostela: The St. James Way

Europe was born more than 1200 years ago on the Way of St. James when pilgrims began to travel to the western end of the ancient Roman Empire to venerate the tomb of one of the twelve apostles of Christ: St. James the Greater. For all these reasons, the Way of St. James has been declared by the Council of Europe as the First European Cultural Route.

The Way of St. James has been populated by people of different origins and conditions, their spirituality but also their languages, knowledge, ideas and art are reflected along the different pilgrimage routes to Compostela. Churches, hospitals, fortresses, monasteries, inns and villages enrich the cultural heritage of the Way of St. James in an extraordinary way. In addition, in Galicia, nature manifests itself in all its grandeur, offering us dreamy landscapes: small rivers and valleys, meadows and forests abound along our route and bring us closer than ever to that spiritual communion between nature and human beings. The richness of its heritage has allowed three of the roads to Santiago de Compostela (the Primitive Way, the Northern Way and the French Way) to be declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

Walking the Way of St. James with our official guides will be a unique experience for you.
